BEHAVIOR AND DISCIPLINE

Proper Islamic conduct is one of the major objectives of NLC. The average student spends five days a week in a public school and many hours in front of the television set. For these students, NLC may be their only contact that concentrates on group Islamic behavior.

Deliberate student misbehavior will not be tolerated. This kind of misconduct will send the wrong impression to the other students, negatively reinforcing this as acceptable in the mind of an innocent Muslim child and adversely affecting their future concepts and attitudes.

It is the duty of the staff to enforce good Islamic behavior, kindly guiding them away from it and replacing it with a correct concept and behavioral practice based on Qur’an and the sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh).

Repeated misbehavior will be subject to the disciplinary steps stated below:

1. Verbal Warning

The first offence is considered non–deliberate and the teacher will render nasiha (advice) to the student and teach the proper Islamic conduct. The teacher will clearly admonish the student not to repeat the action again.

2. Disciplinary Report

This will be issued to the parents of a student who continues to misbehave after a verbal warning. A copy of the report will be kept on file in the office. Parents are required to return the report with their signature. Below are some examples of some actions that may warrant a disciplinary report:

 - Missing homework

- Disrupting class

- Disobeying the teacher or classroom rules

- Offending other students

- Disrespecting the school environment
